SBR Sober Coach: How the App Fits Into a Sober Life (and What It Isn't)

SBR Cartel started with clothing. But clothing can't pick up the phone at 2am. That's why there's an app.

SBR Sober Coach is our sister app, linked from the SBR Cartel menu as "Sober Coach." It's an AI sober coach paired with practical recovery tools, available 24/7, for people working a 12-step program, SMART Recovery or their own path. This is a plain guide to what it does, how it fits alongside everything else in your recovery, and what it isn't.

What it is

At its core, SBR Sober Coach is two things:

  • A Coach you can talk to any time. Private AI support you can open late at night, before a party or in a difficult moment, with practical next steps rather than generic advice.

  • A set of tools for real situations. Check-ins, craving tools, a journal, a support plan and a meeting finder, built for how recovery actually works day to day.

It adapts to your approach. Working the steps with a sponsor? Building your own plan? Using SMART Recovery? The app is designed to fit around that, not replace it.

What it isn't

This part matters, so it goes near the top. SBR Sober Coach is a support tool. It is not medical care, therapy, detox or a crisis hotline, and it doesn't monitor emergencies or contact anyone automatically.

If you're in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the U.S. and Canada, call or text 988 for crisis support. Alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous, so if you've been drinking heavily, get medical advice before you stop.

Getting started

You can try the Coach without signing up. The demo gives you a limited number of free messages: talk about a craving, ask for motivation, or just see how it responds.

When you create an account, a short setup asks only what helps: your goal, your recovery approach, an optional sobriety date, and the tone you want from the Coach. A real name and phone number aren't required.

The daily loop: check in, count, keep going

Daily check-ins are the heartbeat of the app. You log how you're doing (mood, cravings, sleep and wins) and watch your days stack up.

One detail we think matters: your sober-day count is kept separate from your check-in streak. Miss a check-in, or have a hard night, and your progress isn't wiped. A slip doesn't erase what you've built.

Milestones earn badges, and you can turn a badge into a shareable image if you want to post it. The image is built on your device, and you choose whether it shows your day count.

When a craving hits

This is where the app earns its place on your home screen.

  • Craving SOS walks you through one small step at a time and lets you reflect afterwards on what was happening and what helped.

  • Quick Reset gives you a 60-second breathing exercise and a 5-4-3-2-1 grounding exercise.

  • Hold the Line is a simple focus game that gives your hands and brain something to do while the urge passes. It's a distraction tool, and support stays one tap away while you play.

Pair it with our 10-minute craving plan and you've got a full kit for the hardest moments.

My Plan: your people, your reasons

My Plan keeps your support in one place: the people you trust, your reasons for staying sober, and Coach replies you've saved because they helped. When you need to reach someone, the app opens your phone or a message draft. Nothing is sent automatically.

Journal, Progress and Trigger Patterns

  • Journal gives you prompts ("What challenged me today and how did I handle it?") or a blank page.

  • Progress shows simple trends from what you've logged. Plain averages, not a diagnosis or a prediction.

  • Trigger Patterns surfaces observations from the hard moments you chose to save, like what tends to show up and what has helped.

Meetings and community

Meeting Buddy helps you find nearby sober support and make a meeting plan. If you want people as well as tools, optional Community rooms are AI-moderated, with reporting and blocking built in. They're for peer support, not emergencies.

Guides for real situations

Some situations deserve their own playbook. The app includes guides for holidays, dating, work stress and travel, filtered to your recovery approach. If you're reading this in November, that holiday guide is a good place to start.

Privacy

Recovery data is personal. According to the app, data is encrypted in transit and stored behind account-level access controls, recovery data isn't sold or shared with advertisers, and you can wipe your data and account completely at any time.

What it costs and where to get it

You can try the Coach with no signup. For the full Coach and every tool, eligible new subscribers get 30 days free, then $4.99 a month, and you can cancel anytime. On iPhone, Apple shows the exact local price and renewal terms before you confirm.

SBR Sober Coach is on the App Store and at sbrsobercoach.com.

How it fits with everything else

The app works best as one part of a bigger picture: meetings or a program, people you trust, professional help when you need it, and routines that hold your days together. It's the thing in your pocket for the moments in between.

And yes, it's from the same people who make the hoodies. The clothes are the visible part of the decision. The app is the private part. For a wider view of the options, see our roundup of sobriety apps and tools.

Try it tonight

You don't need to commit to anything to see if it helps. Open SBR Sober Coach, say what's going on, and see what comes back.

And when you want the reminder on the outside too, start with the SOBER. mug or browse the full SBR Cartel collection.
