Sober Gifts That Don't Feel Like a Pamphlet

The best sober gifts are things a person would want anyway (a hoodie they'll live in, a drink worth pouring, a good book, a night out) that happen to fit a life without alcohol. This list is for anyone shopping for a sober friend, partner, sibling or coworker, whether they're three weeks in, ten years in, or just sober-curious. Eight ideas, one table, and a few ground rules so your gift reads as respect, not a lecture.

Two of the picks below are ours: the Original 'SOBER.' Hoodie and the SOBER. cup and bottle. We also make an app, SBR Sober Coach, which gets a mention. SBR Cartel is our brand — here's how we see the landscape. Everything said about other companies comes from their own websites, checked in October 2026. Prices and stock change, so confirm before you buy.

Sober Curious or Quit Like a Woman

If they read, a book is an easy win. Two well-known options:

  • Sober Curious by Ruby Warrington. Her site describes it as the 2018 book behind the "sober curious" idea, written in a nonjudgmental voice with concrete takeaways. See it on rubywarrington.com.

  • Quit Like a Woman by Holly Whitaker, published by The Dial Press (Random House), according to her site. See it on hollywhitaker.com.

Best for someone still figuring out where they stand with alcohol, or someone who likes to understand the why. Write something inside the front cover. That's the part they'll keep.

Ghia non-alcoholic apéritifs

Ghia makes non-alcoholic apéritifs. According to its site, they're made with no added sugar, no alcohol and no artificial flavors, built on Mediterranean-inspired botanicals. The gifts page has ready-made sets, including The Discovery Set, plus a gift card.

This one suits the friend who misses the ritual more than the drink itself: the glass before dinner, the spritz on a patio.

One honest caveat that applies to every drink on this list: some sober people skip anything that mimics the old drink. If you're not sure where they stand, ask, or pick something else.

Athletic Brewing non-alcoholic beer

Athletic Brewing brews craft non-alcoholic beer, and it's upfront about what that means. Its site states the beer contains less than 0.5% ABV, a common threshold for non-alcoholic beer, and acknowledges that many customers avoid even small amounts. Respect that.

For the right person (the sober-curious friend, the one who already orders NA beer at the game), it's a solid gift. The site has variety packs, a gifts section and a digital gift card.

For someone in early recovery, don't assume. Ask first.

The Original 'SOBER.' Hoodie

Ours. The product page calls it "the hoodie that started it all back in 2012," and it's still the piece people ask about. Black or Team Red, sizes S to 3XL, from $55. It runs small, so size up.

It's for the person who wears their sobriety out loud, and for the people who back them. You don't have to be sober to wear SBR Cartel; that's right on our About page.

Timing matters: like most SBR Cartel pieces, it's made to order and can take up to 3–4 weeks to arrive. For the holidays, order early.

A Reframe gift subscription

Reframe's site sells prepaid, all-access gift subscriptions for 3 months, 6 months or a year ($19.99, $39.99 and $69.99 when we checked). Per its site, the app is built around a daily program, a drink tracker, courses, a 24/7 private community and tools for cravings like meditations and games.

It's aimed at people who want to drink less or quit, so gift it to someone who has said that's what they want. An app nobody asked for is a pamphlet with a login.

If they're working a 12-step or SMART Recovery program and want support on call 24/7, our app SBR Sober Coach has a no-signup demo; eligible new subscribers get 30 days free, then $4.99/month. Apps are support tools, not medical care. In the U.S. and Canada, anyone in crisis can call or text 988.

A recovery medallion from Hazelden Publishing

Hazelden Publishing, part of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, runs a Gifts and Medallions shop. Its anniversary medallions carry the Twelve Step phrase "To Thine Own Self Be True," and the shop also has jewelry, cards, mugs and Serenity Prayer pieces.

It's the right call for someone marking a 12-step anniversary. If they're on a different path, a medallion can feel off, so go personal instead. We have more ideas in Thoughtful Sobriety Milestone Gift Ideas.

SOBER. CUP or SOBER. water bottle

The everyday-carry option, also ours. The SOBER. CUP is ceramic, dishwasher and microwave safe, in 11, 15 or 20 oz, from $16. The SOBER. water bottle is 32 oz of double-walled, vacuum-insulated stainless steel with a foldable straw and a rotating handle, $30. Hand-wash only.

Small, easy on the budget, and it gets used every day. Good stocking stuffer, good desk gift, good gym gift. The same made-to-order timing applies.

An experience that isn't built around a bar

Sometimes the best gift is a plan. Concert tickets, a cooking class, a climbing day pass, a game, a road trip, a sunrise hike, a late diner run after a show. Pick a time and place where drinking isn't the main event.

Then do the work: pay for it, plan it, handle the logistics. The gift is that they don't have to navigate anything.

How to choose

  • Know their line. Some sober people are fine with NA beer; others avoid anything that tastes like the old drink. Unsure? Go non-drink.

  • Match the person, not the label. Medallion for the 12-step anniversary, book for the reader, hoodie for the one who's loud about it, plans for the one who hates stuff.

  • Don't make it an intervention. A gift isn't feedback. Skip anything that reads like a hint.

  • Order early. SBR Cartel pieces are made to order and can take up to 3–4 weeks to arrive, so holiday orders need lead time.

  • Set a budget. Our sober gift guide by budget sorts ideas by price.

FAQ

What's a good gift for someone who just got sober?

Something useful and low-pressure: a hoodie, a mug, a book, or a plan you've already paid for. Skip drinks that mimic alcohol unless you know they're welcome, and skip anything that sounds like advice.

Is non-alcoholic beer an okay gift for someone in recovery?

Only if you know it's welcome. Athletic Brewing's own site says its beer contains less than 0.5% ABV and acknowledges that many people avoid even small amounts. When in doubt, choose a non-drink gift.

What should I get for a sobriety anniversary?

For someone in a 12-step program, an anniversary medallion is a classic. For anyone else, go personal: something they'll wear, use or do. Mark the date; skip the speech.

Can you gift a sobriety app?

Some apps sell gift subscriptions. Reframe's site, for example, offers prepaid 3-month, 6-month and 1-year options. For other apps, check their own sites first.

How long does SBR Cartel take to ship?

Most SBR Cartel pieces are made to order, and delivery can take up to 3–4 weeks. All sales are final; eligible items can be exchanged for a different size or store credit within 14 days of delivery.

Do you have to be sober to wear SBR Cartel?

No. SBR Cartel started in rehab and is built by people in recovery, but you don't have to be sober to wear the clothes. Allies welcome.

Give something they'll actually use

Shop the full lineup at SBR Cartel, from the Original 'SOBER.' Hoodie to the cup and bottle. Order early: made to order means up to 3–4 weeks.
